How to sew the pattern
Let’s get right into how to make the face mask first. This requires a bit of sewing but at a very basic level so don’t be intimidated. Here is the Free Face Mask Pattern for kids. This mask is 4 inches high from top of nose to bottom of chin. Be sure to measure your child’s face to ensure it will fit. If you need it to be bigger, just increase the size in Design Space.
My fellow blogger, Caroline of SewCanShe.com has an excellent tutorial for how to sew the Face Masks for kids with an additional pocket to hold a filter if you like. She offers a free PDF pattern if you like and I have created the pattern available in a FREE SVG for you as well!

Important CDC Information
Be sure to check up on the CDC’s information regarding using homemade face masks:
In settings where facemasks are not available, HCP might use homemade masks (e.g., bandana, scarf) for care of patients with COVID-19 as a last resort. However, homemade masks are not considered PPE {personal protective equipment}, since their capability to protect HCP is unknown. Caution should be exercised when considering this option. Homemade masks should ideally be used in combination with a face shield that covers the entire front (that extends to the chin or below) and sides of the face. {source of quote at cdc.gov}
Adding animal Faces to the handmade masks
Now let’s make these masks a bit more fun for the kidos! Add a fun animal face to keep them, their friends, and especially their teachers smiling all day long! How can you resist smiling at these cute little faces…
Get the FREE Animal SVGs here and use Infusible Ink Pens or HTV to add to your handmade masks.
Use Caution and Common Sense….
Photos are for illustration only. Please use recommended cloth when making your homemade mask and ensure that the Animal Faces are placed so as not to interfere with breathing.
The SVGs are made with this in mind and deliberately have cut outs for your child’s nose. Please ensure that they are place appropriately on your child’s mask to allow the non HTV parts to fit over their nose Prior to Ironing.
